Behind Some Other Songs
CROWN OF RAGE
“I had just come back from Texas at the time. I was staying in a shack next to a creek and would sit there and blast cotton mouth snakes out of the water from the bank. I was listening to all of those old Texas troubadours at the time and I wanted to be like them as a young man. I thought it would be pretty if things just kept right on going once a person got to heaven.” — Canción
BLUE JEANS
“I needed a song. I was in a cold water flat in France and I had no idea what I was doing there and I had even left my guitars back in the states. But there was an old nylon string there and I picked it for a while and went out to get something and the song started coming to me and the rain started pouring down and I ran back to the old nylon string through the wet streets to furiously write this out before it left me.” — Canción
SEVEN WHISKEYS DEEP
“This song was everything I wanted to say about my life at the time. Sometimes a song helps me feel like I can defy gravity. Everything can be a certain way and a song can fly in the face of all of it with joy, defiance, and something akin to love.” — Canción
MOTEL ROOM BIBLES
“I was staying in a lot of roadside motels at the time and I was having trouble with myself. I noticed that Motels still have bibles in them placed by the gideons. I went home after a tour and right there on the doorstep of my home was a random beat up Bible sitting there. I saw that it was a Gideon Bible, which is the type of Bible that is placed in Motel Rooms. I wrote the song after that.” — Canción
